Zebra Plains Mara Camp is set below the Oldonyo Loip Ridge facing the open plains of the Maasai Mara. The ridge, home to some of the big cats, is one of the most important wildlife habitats and migration corridor that it is under our protection.
The Maasai Mara
We are perfectly positioned in the prime area of the Maasai Mara, where we can very easily conduct exciting safaris amidst Africa’s wildlife. This includes prides of lions and cheetah, the mysterious leopard, herds of animals, and the wildebeest whose annual migration is a fantastic phenomenon and a spectacle to witness.
Each year, between July and October, about 2 million wildebeests and zebras take up habitat in the Maasai Mara. Sometimes they arrive by mid-June and can depart by late October. We are situated in the best location to visit some of the famous crossing points in Mara River or Talek River where they would be crossing the river. The migration moves right through our camp each year showcasing quite a bit of action from the predators of the Maasai Mara. We have been doing safaris in the Maasai Mara for the last 10 years, so we are well equipped to make your experience, at this time of the year, a most memorable one.
At Zebra Plains we offer various safari plans as well as customizable options suitable to your interests. Our 4×4 land cruiser safari vehicles are safe and comfortable, giving you an excellent wildlife viewing and photography experience. Due to the cooler temperatures and higher big cat activity, our game drives depart early in the morning and late in the afternoon for the best viewing experience however there is also a lot of animal activity to enjoy during the daytime. This gives us great flexibility to cater specific safaris suitable to your needs.
We offer up to three game drives daily, designed around giving our guests the best game viewing experience possible. Our 4×4 land cruiser safari vehicles depart early in the morning, and late in the afternoon when the temperature is cooler and the big cats are more active. This is also the best time for our photography enthusiasts, as the lighting is still soft. Our expert guides will teach you about the bush, while you encounter the Big Five and the other wildlife.
This is the best way of getting closer to nature and its wildlife. Your senses of sight, smell, taste, touch and hearing would be put to action at every step; Here you will step out of your safari vehicle and our qualified Maasai naturalist with another armed and experienced guide leads this walking safari. Get closer to the giraffes, zebras, impalas and other plains game, smell some of the plants, taste some of the edible plants, touch some of the wildlife products, hear those snorting impala rams roaring, identify foot prints left by lions or leopards at night and other game and identify some interesting small game like spiders, butterflies, dung beetles, termites amongst others.
Our luxury tented rooms are furnished with all the amenities that you will require for a comfortable stay whilst visiting the Maasai Mara.
